Shoes in Miniature

The Lillian P. Wood Memorial Collection

Lillian Pearl Wood

Lillian P. Wood was my maternal grandmother. She was born on August 1, 1901 and died in March, 1993 at the age of 91.  She was the original collector of these miniature shoes. She received her first ’shoe’, a white pearl pin about 2″ long, from an aunt living in Hannibal, MO.  It was a gift for her 9th birthday (1910). Thus, a tradition was born. She collected many shoes on her trips throughout the United States and Canada, and received many as gifts from friends and family as they traveled throughout the world.

The shoe collection numbered 538 single shoes and pairs of shoes (counted as one shoe) at the time of her death.

  2. Ivor Shaw: I have three 12″x 15″ display flats with tiny miniature shoes. Do you collect all types of shoes in that size range? What types of shoes are your others? Much of my collection is in glass, ceramic and porcelain and in the 2″ to 6″ category, though I really have just about everything. Some are very tacky, but sentimental; others are historical or antique shoes and are valued accordingly.

If you have anything out of the ordinary, I would love to exchange some information and photos for curiosity’s sake.

  4. I have a collection of 46 antique shoes (glass, ceramic, dutch, ect). I’d love to sell them to a collector, they are so quaint and beautiful! I have pictures, if you know of anyone who would be interested in adding to their collection just shoot me an email and I’ll send you the pictures. Thanks!
